    • Mrs. T. C. WATSON: Elkhorn, Manitoba. March 13 (Special). Mrs. T. C. WATSON, formerly Ella Pearl NORSWORTHY, died March 6 in Elkhorn hospital and was buried here March 9, service being conducted in St. Mark's Anglican church. She was born in the Butler district in 1884. Surviviing are her husband, a daughter, Isabel, of Brandon, and five sons, Harold and Tommy at home, Henry, Milestone, Saskatchewan, and Robin and John in Ontario.

      PIONEER LADY, KOLA DISTRICT PASSES: Ella Pearl, beloved wife of Thomas C. WATSON, n.e.20-10-29, near Butler, a pioneer of Kola district, died in Elkhourn hospital, in her 62nd year, after a short illness, on Wednesday, March 6th.

      Mrs. WATSON (nee NORSWORTHY) was one of the first children of the scattered community in which she first saw light of day, on May 18th, 1884. In those days the Kila district was hust on the fringe of the populated agricultural areas, of which Virden, Elkhorn and Birlte were the chief trading centres, and long, tiresome trips were often made with oxen as the chief motive power. Her life was one of distinct pioneer effort and she came bravely through the vicissitudes of that early period.

      She was married over forty years ago in the Kola church and took a great interest in church matter throughout her useful life, every ready to lend a helping hand, too, in the interests of the community. A devoted wife, and mother, she leaves to mourn her passing, one daughter, Isabel, of Brandon; and five sons - Harold, at home; Henry, Milestone, Sask.; Tom, recently discharged from the airforce, who saw considerable service in Alaska; Robin and John, of Siderate, Ontario. There are two grandchildren. Also one brother, Walter NORSWORTHY, of Butler.

      The funeral service was conducted in St. Mark's church, Elkhorn, on Friday, March 8th, by Capt. H. B. Millar, C. A, in the presence of the family and a number of sympathizers. Interment took place at Elkhorn cemetery. The pallbearers being Messrs. A. CHAPPLE, Robt. GRIEVE, Tom NALEN, John ROACH, Eden WELDON and H. J. WOOD. Floral tributes of love and esteem paid silent tribute to the passing of a truly good woman.

    This is the church John and Margaret attended and in whose cemetery they are buried. Constructed in 1884, the church was an ambitious undertaking by the first wave of British-Ontario pioneers who settled in this southwestern district of Manitoba.
