- WADLIN Dies; Ulster Co. Legislator. Catskill. (AP). John R. WADLIN, 52, Republican assembyman from Ulster County 13 years, died last night of a heart attack while attending a district Masonic meeting here.
Mr. WADLIN, a lawyer and resident of Highland, became ill after dinner and collapsed on the porch of the Saulpaugh Hotel.
He was chairman of the Assembly Labor and Industries Committee and was coauthor, with Senator William F. Condon, Yonkers, of the Condon-Wadlin Law, which prohibits public employees from striking. He had served on the Joint Legislative Commitee on industrial and Labor Conditions, known a the Mailler Committee. He also was a member of the Joint Committee on Legislative Practices, Procedures and expenditures.
Mr. WADLIN first was elected to the Assembly in 1940. He previously had served as chairman of the Ulster County Board of Supervisors and was a Highland fire commissioner. He long was active in the Masons and Elks.
He is survived by his wife, the former Beatrice HASBROUCK, and three children, Elizabeth, 16; Diane, 13; and John Ray, 9. He also leaves a brother, Arthur WADLIN, Largo, Fla., and a sister, Mrs. William MAYNARD, Highland.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday in Highland.
